PERSONAL BIOGRAPHY |
Born November 11, 2131, Drake was the only child of an Outer Banks couple who
ran a small souvenir shop near Kitty Hawk, the birthplace of flight. Although
there wasn't a lot of air traffic in the area during his childhood-the area
shows little sign of being important to flight history, despite the towering
monument. He did have an opportunity to watch many seagoing vessels come in and
out along the coast. Legends of the sea abound, and Drake spent much of his free
time dreaming of adventure, replete with pirates, sea monsters, wicked storms,
and the unknowns of the sea.
However, in mid 2140, Drake's family moved inward away from the coast. His
passion for the mythos of the sea waned, and his love of ships turned from the
aquatic to the aerial. His interest shifted to piloting, and as he went through
his teenage years he immersed himself in the life of a pilot, in the history of
aircraft, and, most importantly, in any and all information he could find on the
most current goings-on within Starfleet's Exploration Division. Admittedly, this
was not a great deal, but Drake devoured what he could find and quickly set his
sights on entering some military service where he could fly the really high-tech
stuff.
By 2151, he had decided almost certainly to join the Navy-the good old wet kind-
with the hopes of not only flying advanced aircraft, but seeing the world while
he was at it. This dream was quickly overwritten, however, late in his senior
year in high school, when the Enterprise NX-01 was launched. It was to the
credit of Drake's dedication that he was able to edge his way into Starfleet
Academy's freshman class in the fall of that year.
At the Academy, Drake not only found what he was looking for from a professional
perspective, but rediscovered a childhood passion: myths and legends. This grew
into an amateur interest in anthropology in general, although the draw of it was
not enough to steal Drake from the pilot's seat. By the time graduation loomed,
Drake had a distinct goal in mind: to get himself at the helm of the newest,
most advanced vessels Starfleet had to offer-at the time, the NX-class-for love
of the craft.
Drake has been solitary more often than not most of his life. Although he
managed to develop some command skills at the Academy-enough to be officer
material-he still has some learning to do if he ever wants to see significant
promotions. He is more subdued than many of his "hot shot" peers, content to be
quietly confident (possibly even overconfident) in his abilities. He prefers
tightly-knit social groups to large ones. If he is at the controls of most any
craft, he is happy, although he values the technical qualities of the vessel
more than the sentimental value.
